Retired Partner, of Counsel
Tom is a retired member of AAFCPAs’ Community & Economic Development practice. A strong connector and advocate for the industry, he played a key role in expanding AAFCPAs’ presence in the community development sector and was instrumental in leading the firm’s community development corporations (CDC) niche. Throughout his tenure, he was highly sought after by organizations in the community development sector including community development financial institutions (CDFIs), affordable housing developers, CDCs, tax credit syndicators, and other nonprofits. His strong relationships within the industry were key to AAFCPAs’ growth in the space, and his leadership helped position the firm as a leading advisor in the CDC movement.
As an industry leader, Tom advised organizations on tax credit programs fueling community development including low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), new markets tax credits (NMTC), state and federal historical rehabilitation tax credits, and renewable energy tax credits. During his many years at AAFCPAs, Tom also provided trusted guidance to complex higher education institutions and private schools, as well as commercial clients in manufacturing, real estate, and clean energy. Beyond client advisory, Tom was committed to knowledge-sharing. He conducted in-house training for AAFCPAs’ team members and led financial and operational seminars for nonprofits throughout New England. He co-developed and taught a financial budgeting and management workshop series for CDCs and lectured annually on New Markets Tax Credits on behalf of the Massachusetts Housing Investment Corporation and other nonprofit service organizations. Tom also contributed to industry initiatives focused on financial best practices and capacity building, including Opportunity Finance Network’s Performance Counts initiative and Strength Matters, which supports financial capacity building for nonprofit developers.
