Sorie Kaba, CPA
Partner
Sorie brings deep experience serving sophisticated nonprofit organizations, including multi-service human and social services providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Community Development Corporations (CDCs), affordable housing developers, and their financing partners, including community development financial institutions (CDFIs). He understands the operational and funding complexities these organizations navigate every day and partners with leadership to provide practical, forward-looking guidance.
He advises entities subject to Uniform Guidance (UG)/Single Audit and Government Auditing Standards, as well as organizations with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and NeighborWorks America requirements. Sorie helps clients untangle the complexities of UG compliance—interpreting cost principles, strengthening internal control documentation, and building sustainable compliance frameworks designed to withstand scrutiny while supporting mission delivery.
Sorie also has specialized expertise in tax credit–based financing, including New Markets Tax Credits (NMTCs), Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs), federal and state Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits, and Renewable Energy Tax Credits. He advises on projects that layer tax credits with multiple levels of debt and rental assistance subsidies, guiding clients throughout the full project life cycle—from deal structuring through compliance and investor exit.
Internally, Sorie chairs AAFCPAs’ Inclusion & Belonging Council, helping to shape initiatives that promote equity, engagement, and a culture of belonging across the firm. As a member of the Risk Committee, he supports the firm’s proactive enterprise risk management program, compliance oversight, and sound governance. Originally from Liberia, he speaks both English and Mandinka.
