Director, Risk Advisory
Josh is a leader in the Risk Advisory practice at AAFCPAs, partnering with clients to strengthen Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) strategies as well as regulatory and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) in complex operating environments. With a background in financial accounting, Josh also provides expertise in fraud, forensic accounting, and litigation support. He has extensive experience with the operations of private companies and public issuers (pre- and post-IPO) across multiple industries including medical technology and life sciences, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, semiconductor, insurance, digital and traditional marketing, and SaaS.
Josh oversees risk advisory engagements including, but not limited to, internal controls assessments, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Sections 302 and 404 readiness and compliance, internal and operational audits, litigation support, forensic accounting, and fraud engagements. He guides organizations in building robust internal control systems, which serve to mitigate financial statement and other risks to acceptable levels while helping businesses and individuals prevent, identify, and address fraud, money laundering, and other financial wrongdoing. His expertise extends to supporting legal teams with intricate financial analysis during disputes, where he strengthens case strategies and drives optimal financial results.
He regularly presents to audit committees and works closely with C-suite officers on internal control environment improvements, remediation efforts, and emerging risk considerations. His approach emphasizes sound judgment, clear communication, and timely resolution of issues, supporting informed decision-making for those charged with governance.
Prior to joining AAFCPAs, Josh held senior management roles in regional and Top-10 national public accounting risk advisory consulting groups, as well as corporate audit and ERM services for a global insurance firm, leading teams in ICFR/SOX readiness and compliance, ERM, risk-based internal audit, SOC readiness and assurance engagements, and specialty attestation engagements. Josh is an active Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He earned a Master of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting), magna cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He and his wife live in southern New Hampshire. When he’s not helping clients, they spend time outdoors—skiing the slopes, hiking through the woods, and riding local trails on dirt bikes.
