Greta Whelan, CPA, MST
Tax Director
Greta is a leader in AAFCPAs’ Entrepreneurial Tax Practice, where she advises small- to medium-sized closely held businesses and their owners, including key employees, on tax planning, compliance, and wealth preservation strategies. Her industry experience spans high-tech, real estate, professional services, and home care agencies.
She counsels clients on federal, state, and multistate taxation matters involving C corporations, S corporations, and partnerships. Greta oversees the preparation of complex corporate, individual, partnership, and multistate tax returns and develops tax projections and estimated payments to help clients manage cash flow and avoid unexpected year-end liabilities. She closely monitors evolving tax laws and regulations and shares insights through thought leadership, including blogs on specialized topics such as mortgage interest deductions.
Greta collaborates with an integrated team of tax partners, tax attorneys, consulting CFOs, and wealth advisors to align estate planning, trust compliance, and financial planning strategies. She also works with the firm’s Transaction Advisory Services practice to guide clients through business transitions.
Greta joined AAFCPAs in 2019 and has more than 25 years of experience in public accounting. She is an active member of the firm’s Tax Training Committee, where she develops research assignments, delivers presentations, and leads trainings to keep colleagues informed on compliance and planning developments. Greta also serves as a performance manager, providing guidance and mentoring to staff in the delivery of complex client engagements. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a Master of Science in Taxation from Bentley University. Greta originally pursued physics in college before switching her focus to accounting — a fun fact that highlights her analytical mindset.
