AAFCPAs to Present Financial and Data Strategies for Community Health Centers at CHI 2026
Rising costs, shifting healthcare reimbursement models, and growing patient demand continue to strain Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and other healthcare providers across the nation. Management is forced to weigh difficult decisions while seeking practical ways to stabilize operations, improve cash flow, and protect mission‑driven care.
AAFCPAs is pleased to present two sessions at the 2026 Community Health Institute Annual Conference.
When Budgets Don’t Match Reality: FQHC Financial Volatility Solutions
This session is being held from 11:30 – 12:30 PM ET on May 7, 2026, focused on FQHC financial sustainability strategies—including expense management, revenue optimization, and administrative efficiency—that finance teams may apply during periods of funding volatility and grant uncertainty.
Drawing on real-world experience with FQHCs, panelists Courtney McFarland, CPA, MSA, 340B ACE, AAFCPAs’ Partner, and Pauline Legor, CPA, MBA, AAFCPAs’ Director, along with our client John Cooney, CFO of DOTHOUSE HEALTH INC will examine how financial and operational KPIs—such as cost per visit, operating margin, and days in accounts receivable—may reveal root causes of funding gaps. Presenters will address revenue cycle management, billing and collections processes, and staffing alignment tied to patient volume.

The session will also explore back-office consolidation models, including combined finance, billing, and IT functions, to reduce overhead and support long-term stability.
Finally, difficult decisions often require challenging conversations and communications. To support this, Barbra Watson, VP of Strategic Communications at Longview Strategies will join the panel discussion to share strategies for effectively explaining financial realities, program adjustments, and service changes to both internal and external stakeholders, helping preserve trust while navigating complex operational decisions.
Making the Invisible Visible: Using Data to Tackle Everyday CHC Operational Challenges
AAFCPAs will also present an interactive session within the Innovation Hub, focused on a technology-enabled approach to operational visibility and performance management for community health centers.
This 20-minute session on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, 3:35 – 3:55 PM ET, will demonstrate how organizations may consolidate data from existing EHR and practice management systems into a centralized analytics dashboard. Using a Massachusetts community health center case study, presenters will show how leadership teams may monitor key performance indicators such as visit volume, provider workload, cancellations, and service line performance in near real time.
The session will highlight how improved access to integrated data supports faster decision-making, more effective staffing alignment, and stronger oversight of access to care goals. Attendees will also gain perspective on how scalable analytics frameworks may support long-term planning, including hybrid care delivery models and evolving reporting requirements.
Designed for resource-constrained environments, the approach builds on existing systems, minimizing disruption while enabling incremental adoption based on organizational priorities.
