David Marsell

David is a member of AAFCPAs’ Outsourced Accounting & Fractional CFO (OAFC) practice, where he provides accounting infrastructure set-up and financial management for clients in the software and cannabis industries. He serves as point person for client communication, overseeing all engagement aspects and managing deadlines and deliverables. With extensive experience in project management, client onboarding, and financial clean-ups, David ensures smooth transitions for start-ups through mature businesses.

He oversees daily transactional accounting tasks such as accounts receivable and payable, payroll, and monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts. In addition, he provides clients with budgeting and cash flow forecasts, budget-to-actual analyses, necessary checks and balances, and financial reports—delivered monthly or quarterly—containing essential data to support business decisions.

David’s expertise lies in helping clients streamline their accounting processes, implement QuickBooks and other accounting software, and providing guidance on best practices. He collaborates closely with new clients to ensure financial systems are modernized, processes are efficient, and risks are mitigated. Within the cannabis sector, David navigates the unique tax and accounting challenges, including IRS tax compliance and cost of goods sold (COGS) allocations to optimize 280E exposure, along with analytics and forecasting, overcoming industry complexities caused by limited comparisons and varying state regulations. David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and finance from Lasell University and has previous direct experience in the finance function at a California cannabis operator. Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with friends, attending football games, and going to concerts.
