When Fun Meets Purpose: The Power of Service and Giving Back
Each year, AAFCPAs sets aside a portion of its net income to support the nonprofit community—part of a long-standing commitment we call 10% Back to Nonprofits. While that giving includes sponsorships, pro bono work, and board service, it also takes shape in more personal ways.
Summer Outing Raffles Raise Over $5,000 for Nonprofits
At this year’s summer outing on June 20, team members once again volunteered to organize raffles to benefit local nonprofits. They also showcased their creativity by designing themed baskets inspired by their own passions and interests. Curators chose nonprofit beneficiaries whose missions spoke to their heart and aligned with causes they deeply care about. The raffle raised $2,684.00, which was matched in full by AAFCPAs’ Charitable Foundation.
This year’s beneficiaries included:
- Second Step
- Boston Healthcare for the Homeless
- Justice Resource Institute
- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
- Sam G. Hughes Memorial Scholarship @WSU
- Fenway Community Health Center
- MSPCA-Angel
- Immigrant Family Services
- Animal Rescue League of Boston
- Boston Health Care for the Homeless
Annual Days of Service: Our Team Connected, Communities Benefited
AAFCPAs offers every team member one paid day off each year to volunteer, creating time and space to give back. More than a benefit, it’s a way to connect people to the personal rewards of service—whether or not they’ve volunteered before. Our hope is that one meaningful experience can spark a habit of giving that lasts well beyond the day itself.
To encourage participation and make volunteering more accessible, AAFCPAs organizes team-wide events throughout the year. Many chose to spend that time participating in the 12th Annual CPA Day of Service, organized in partnership with the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs).
These efforts also align with AAFCPAs’ 10% Back to Nonprofits program, which entails both volunteer hours and monetary donations. In addition to the time volunteered, AAFCPAs’ Charitable Foundation made donations to each participating organization.
This year’s organized events included:
AAFCPAs @ Boston Harbor Now
Cleanup With Purpose
At Moakley Park in South Boston, MA, team members from AAFCPAs and AAF Wealth Management rolled up their sleeves for a shoreline cleanup led by AAFCPAs’ client, Boston Harbor Now. Over two days, 23 volunteers collected litter and cleared debris, removing more than 90 pounds of litter to help keep the city’s largest waterfront park clean, safe, and accessible. We are honored to continue to support Boston Harbor Now’s mission to create a more resilient, inclusive coastline.
AAFCPAs @ Cradles to Crayons
Sorting and Packaging
At our client, Cradles to Crayons’ Giving Factory in Newtonville, MA, 11 volunteers from AAFCPAs helped sort, check, and prepare 84 totes of clothing for children across Massachusetts. The effort supports the organization’s belief that quality = dignity—providing families facing economic hardship with essential items packed with care.
AAFCPAs @ Animal Rescue League of Boston
Animal Welfare Support
At the Animal Rescue League of Boston, another valued client and advocate for animal welfare, team members volunteered across two service days at the Dedham, MA campus. Twenty-four volunteers helped clean barns and shelters, freshen up outdoor areas, and socialize with animals—supporting a safe and welcoming environment for pets awaiting their next home.
One Animal Rescue League shelter guest found a forever home! Meet the newest addition to Caryn Francese’s family, Sammy.
Thank you to every AAFCPAs team member who gave their time in service this year. Your contributions supported meaningful causes and reflected the values we bring to our work, our clients, and our communities.
“Giving back is part of who we are,” said Carla McCall, CPA, CGMA, Managing Partner at AAFCPAs. “It grounds us, brings perspective, and strengthens our culture. When we support the missions of our nonprofit clients, we grow closer as a team and closer to the communities we serve.”
Through our 10% Back to Nonprofits Program, AAFCPAs continues to invest in social change by offering financial contributions, sponsorships, and employee matching gifts. Our paid volunteer day shares the same spirit—helping team members experience the value of service firsthand. It is one way we turn intention into action—together.
