Rory Burke, CPA
Rory is responsible for providing assurance, tax, and advisory solutions for diverse nonprofit organizations, including: community development corporations (CDCs) and their affordable housing projects, Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFIs), charter schools & charter management organizations, multiservice human & social service providers, and behavioral health providers.
Rory ensures a positive, and unobtrusive audit experience for clients, with a focus on internal controls and risk management. He has extensive experience in providing assurance solutions in accordance with Uniform Guidance/Single Audit and Government Auditing Standards, as well as those with Massachusetts Uniform Financial Statement (UFR) filing requirements. He advises clients on upcoming regulatory changes to determine potential impact, including the revenue recognition standards, lease accounting, and changes to the Statement of Cash Flows. He also advises clients on the impact of changing UFR regulations, interpreting program results, and the importance of cost allocation methodologies on outcomes.
Rory consults clients on real estate development projects, from pre-development and cost certifications at inception to exit planning. This includes guidance for limited partnerships/limited liability companies at the end of Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC), or Historical Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HRTC) compliance periods. He analyzes clients’ deb covenant ratios and advises on strategies to maintaining compliance.
Rory was a participant in the firm’s 2018 inaugural Innovation Lab Changemaker Challenge. He is recognized for thinking entrepreneurially and developing ideas for technology & process improvements. Rory is also an internal trainer on diverse topics, including best practices and standards updates in assurance and tax compliance for affordable housing limited partnerships.
