Herb founded Alexander, Aronson, Finning, & Co., P.C. in 1973. In addition to audits, his particular expertise includes business valuations and accounting forensics, having appeared as an expert witness for both. He is frequently involved in succession and transition planning, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. His clients are primarily closely held businesses and he serves as financial advisor to high net worth families.

He is a graduate of Boston University's College of Business Administration where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Herb was awarded the Silver Medal for high achievement on the CPA Examination. Following graduation, he worked for a large international public accounting firm for six years and later for a medium-size manufacturing company where he served as that company?s chief financial officer.

He is active in a number of charitable organizations, is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Worcester Art Museum and is on the Investment Committee of Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries. Herb is involved in the Massachusetts Easter Seals of Massachusetts and was formerly a member of its Board of Directors. In 1997, this association awarded Herb the Parker Trowbridge Award, its highest service award.

Professionally, Herb is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and is the most recent past Chairman and President of the International Association of Practising Accountants, a U. K. based global association of independent accounting firms and groups. Herb earned the Certificate in Financial Forensics (CFF) issued by the AICPA. Herb is also a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and has served as a committee chairperson and a member of the Board of Directors.

In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors of Boston Private Financial Holdings Corp., a publicly traded company (Nasdaq; BPFH) and 2 of its wholly owned subsidiaries, Boston Private Bank and Trust Company and Charter Bank (Bellevue, Washington). He serves in leadership positions on several of the holding company and banks? committees. Herb is also a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and was awarded the Institute?s Certificate of Director Education. Other memberships include the Alumni Board of the School of Management at Boston University and the advisory committee of Northeastern University Graduate School of Professional Accounting.
